A Finding That Outlives Its Matter | Legal SaaS Animation
One proposition, followed through three screens, from the case that produced it into the library the whole firm reuses.
The design goal was to give research a life after the matter closes. Knowledge management in law firms usually fails the same way: good work is saved somewhere nobody looks, stripped of the context that made it trustworthy, so the next person redoes it. The task was to make reuse safe rather than merely possible.
The result is that a finding never travels alone. In the matter, findings group under issues instead of dates, because that is how a brief gets written and how a partner asks the question, and issues with no findings say so rather than being hidden. Open one and every finding carries the citations it was saved with, the name of the person who accepted it, and the date its treatment was last checked, so a colleague can verify it without rerunning anything. The matter also opens on what changed while nobody was looking: an authority a saved finding relies on moved from good law to questioned after it was saved. In the library, the first row of Recently promoted is the same proposition the shot just read, now promoted to a firm collection, with the name of the person who moved it there. Promotion is a person's decision, never automatic.
