About the Project
A smart home control app designed for people who want their living space to feel intelligent — not overwhelming. It unifies room ambience, lighting intensity, temperature sensing, camera control, and mood-based automation into a single, warm mobile experience — giving homeowners full visibility and effortless control from the palm of their hand.
Problem Statement
Most smart home apps suffer from a cold, utilitarian aesthetic — rows of toggles, flat icons, and sterile dashboards that feel more like a control panel than a home. Users lacked a unified view of their environment, controls were scattered across multiple apps, and no product truly reflected the warmth of the space it was meant to control.
Business Problem to Solve
The core challenge was transforming fragmented smart device controls into one cohesive, emotionally resonant dashboard. The app needed to handle live environmental data, multi-room device management, and adaptive lighting — all without overwhelming the user with complexity or sacrificing the warmth that makes a house feel like a home.
Key Decisions
Anchoring the top section with a dot-matrix temperature display and a glowing "Warm" mood indicator created an immediate emotional read of the room before any interaction. The Lamp Intensity card uses a tactile lux slider with a warm amber gradient that literally shows the light — not just a number. The Auto/moon toggle chip is a micro-interaction gem: a single tap switches between manual and smart automation without any modal or confirmation. Choosing a cream, matte, and deep-brown palette over conventional blue or green smart home palettes was a deliberate decision to make the app feel as warm as the spaces it controls.
Business Growth Effect
By centralizing room sensing, lighting automation, and camera control into one ambient-first interface, Room X reduces the friction of everyday home management, increases smart device engagement, and creates an emotional connection between the user and their living environment. A beautiful, intuitive home app doesn't just improve usability — it increases perceived product value and drives higher retention for smart home platforms.
