Tier4AI - AI-driven MDR platform
The Challenge
Design and develop an MVP.
Tier4AI, a company specializing in cybersecurity, approached us with a clear goal: design and develop a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) that could be tested with potential clients. The main challenge was figuring out how to present vast amounts of complex data – including cybersecurity vulnerabilities, alerts, and incidents – in a way that was easy to understand and navigate for users. The challenge also included designing a user experience that balanced simplicity with depth, enabling users to explore information progressively. Additionally, we had to understand Tier4AI’s competitive landscape and ensure the product was well-positioned to enter the market at the right time. In order for partner MSP resellers to be able to sell, the message needed to be easy to understand, the deployment had to be simple plug and play and the cost needed to remain low and as fixed as possible.
The Process
During the sprint, we worked on creating a platform where users could start with a high-level overview and progressively access more details. For instance, users first see summary cards with key data, then can click to open a side panel with more information, and finally access a full detailed view if needed. This intuitive and layered design allows users to interact with the data in manageable steps without feeling overwhelmed. Additionally, the integration with Threat Intel sources provides extra context to the standard alert data, enhancing the users’ ability to make informed decisions.
The Design Sprint was also crucial for learning more about the cybersecurity industry and Tier4AI’s business model. The sprint resulted in a validated prototype tested with potential users and a clear roadmap for the next development phases.
To ensure a smooth transition from ideation to execution, we implemented the Scrum Methodology. This allowed us to develop the MVP efficiently while maintaining flexibility. Our team consisted of four developers (Backend and Frontend), a UX/UI Designer, and a Project Manager. Jon Ticknor, one of Tier4AI’s founders, played a key role as Product Owner, working closely with us to define priorities and ensure alignment with business goals.
The Outcome
Within three months, we successfully launched the first version of Tier4AI. This version included all planned features and some additional functionalities that enhanced its usability and positioned it competitively in the market. The multi-tenancy screens were also included, allowing service providers to see all clients in one view. The initial planning and close collaboration with the client allowed us to work efficiently and even add new features as we moved forward.
To build the platform, we used Next.js for the frontend – a framework ideal for high-performance web applications – and Django for the backend, ensuring scalability and reliability.
